Welcome Back Silva Valley! (email 7/29/24)
Dear Silva Valley Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the Silva Valley Elementary School 2024-2025 school year! I am honored to be the principal of such an outstanding elementary school and look forward to a year full of fun events, positive experiences, and academic challenges for your children. In order to make the return to school as smooth as possible, here is some important information about life on our campus. Also, please see the Silva Valley Elementary Website for the most current information.
It looks like Oak Ridge High School has not completed their parking lot project yet so I am not sure how congested traffic will be until this project is completed. I would recommend you plan accordingly and try to leave a little early for school. Similar to the end of last school year, we will have two crossing guards in the morning and two in the afternoon to assist students and parents at the intersection.

Students are required to arrive at school on time. Each school day is carefully structured by the teacher. When a student is late to school, not only is important instruction missed, but also class is disrupted. All students arriving late must check into the office before going to class. Students who walk, receive rides or ride their bikes to school should arrive no earlier than 7:45 AM. There is no supervision on campus before 7:45 AM. At the end of the school day, students should be picked up no later than 2:25 PM.
Back-to-School Night
Back-to-School-Night will be Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Scheduled times will be as follows:

6:15 - 7:00 PM for Grades 3 - 5
Classroom Placement
This school year the District will be emailing a communication to parents on how to access your student’s classroom placement through our system called Alma. Please follow the directions on the email to log on to the system. On Tuesday, August 6th at 4:00 PM you will be able to see your student’s teacher for the 2024 - 2025 school year. If you need assistance, please contact Gwendolyn Rogers in the school office for assistance.
Monthly Bulletins
On the first day of each month, a parent bulletin will be emailed to each student’s home by the school office. This bulletin will also be posted on the Silva Valley Elementary School Website. Parents are encouraged to check the school website and school bulletins online on a regular basis to keep up on school activities and upcoming events.
Arrival / Dismissal Procedures
Arrival of Students - Please instruct your children about safely walking to and from bus stops, waiting at bus stops, and when walking or biking to and from Silva Valley Elementary School. Always use marked crosswalks when crossing streets. It is recommended that adults walk with their children to and from school whenever possible. Many parents choose to drive their children to school in the morning and the intersection of Silva Valley Parkway and Golden Eagle Lane gets very congested. In order to make the morning drop-off as timely and safe as possible, please allow extra time for the traffic. Please drive slowly and cautiously through the parking lot. Please drop your student off in the parking lot in front of the office and continue moving forward. Students should have backpacks ready and exit as quickly as possible. At 7:45 AM students may go to the blacktop to walk and talk. When the 7:55 AM bell rings, students will be directed to line up on their designated class lines which are painted on the blacktop. Teachers will meet their class at the blacktop at this time. Parents of TK / K students will be allowed to walk their students to the kindergarten area for drop off. For the first two weeks of the school year, parents of grade 1 students may enter campus and walk their students to the lunch tables near the blacktop area and may wait with their students until school begins. Once the bell rings at 7:55 AM grade 1 students may line up at their respective teachers classroom number.
Dismissal of Students - Parents of TK / K students will be allowed to meet their students in the kindergarten area and parents of first graders will be able to meet their students at the front of the school by the kindergarten area. Parents who wish to pick up their students by vehicle at the end of the school day will need to proceed into the parking lot pick up area in front of the school. Students who walk and ride their bikes home will be dismissed from school as usual. Parents who want to meet their students at the end of the day will need to meet them in front of the school for pick up.
Closed Campus
Parents, guardians or other adults picking up students from school before the regular dismissal time must come to the office and sign out their student. Students will not be released to anyone not listed on the student’s emergency card. If the adult requesting to check a child out of school is unknown to the office staff, identification will be required. All visitors and parent volunteers to campus must sign-in at the office and wear a badge/sticker identifying them as a visitor to campus. Parents, guardians or other adults may not linger on campus once school is in session and should not arrive at campus for pick-up more than 15 minutes prior to the end of the school day.
Lunch / Second Chance Breakfast
A wide variety of healthy and delicious items are offered through our Food Services Program. Breakfast/Lunch specialties vary each day and you can find the menus on the school and/or district website.
As a result of funding from the State of California, Buckeye Union School District will continue to provide free meals to all students for the 2024-25 school year. However, in order to ensure Buckeye USD receives all available funding this year, ALL families, regardless of family income, are asked to complete a School Education Benefit Form and a Meal Application Form at the following two links:

Link for the Meal Application:

If a student has forgotten his/her lunch at home, parents may drop the lunch off in the office. Students need to check the office before going to lunch and may pick up his/her lunch then. Please be sure your child’s name is on the lunch.
School-Wide Expectations
We will continue implementing the positive behavior intervention support (PBIS) system that was developed by parents, teachers, support staff, and administration for all students. PBIS is the application of evidence-based strategies and systems to assist schools to increase academic performance, increase school-wide safety, decrease problem behavior, and establish positive school cultures. At the beginning of the school year the Silva Valley staff will be providing explicit instruction to students on school-wide expectations. Problem behaviors will be monitored throughout the school year and reteaching opportunities and correction will be provided for students as needed. We believe that it is important for children to have clear expectations for their behavior and be acknowledged for their positive behavior. Students will be expected to:
Be Safe Be Respectful Be Responsible
Parent Involvement / Classroom Volunteers
Parent volunteers are an integral part of the program at Silva Valley. We encourage the participation of parents and community members as volunteers in the classrooms and at school functions. If you wish to volunteer, please contact your child’s teacher or the office. Volunteers must be fingerprinted and cleared by the District prior to participating in school activities including field trips. All volunteers must sign in at the office, have a secretary verify that their background check has been received by the District, and receive a name badge which must be worn at all times while on campus. Parents who volunteer must coordinate times and duties with the classroom teacher and make child care arrangements for siblings. Siblings and non-enrolled children are not allowed in classrooms, in the office, workroom or on field trips.
PTA (Parent Teacher Association)
Silva Valley has an outstanding and active Parent Teacher Association that supports our students in a variety of ways. PTA sponsors educational programs, educational assemblies, social activities, and fundraisers throughout the school year. Fundraisers provide the students and teachers of Silva Valley Elementary School with teaching supplies, scholarships for field trips, educational equipment, PE equipment, and building/grounds improvements. We strongly encourage you to be active at Silva Valley and be a member of the PTA. Please visit the school website and click on the PTA link for more information.
